Tiny Things

Next time I step outside
I will make sure to look down
More this time
To appreciate the tiny things
That come together
to make a mighty site.

Magical Creatures

Baby Minmy, Gouache & color pencil

In the world of Wolliy there a many different species of animals, some similar to the ones we see here on our planet and others are more mysterious with peculiar traits and possibly magical powers. A baby Minmy is by nature sweet and gentle, only 1 foot tall. As they begin to mature they can grow up to 200 feet tall. This height depends on the physical space in which they are given to roam. The smaller the space the smaller they will remain.

Maria arrives at a mysterious island after being stranded for days. She cautiously inches closer to this floating land to take a rest from her long journey.

Miniature Painting

I took time to make something with my hands and some gouache paint today. It is always a grounding experience to push color around with a tiny paintbrush. This image has been in my head for a while. I tend to wait to start a piece until I have figured out what the most effective medium is to tell the story, and I don’t always know where the story may end up. The way I see it though is that the most important part is just to start.

Tappy the Mustard Toad 3.0

Mustard toads like playing games too…they just don’t know you’re not supposed to eat the equipment.

I’ve been teaching myself how to animate using 2D tools. Here’s a little short.

Art & Play

Sometimes I plan pieces from beginning to end. Other times I find them while playing and moving my paint brush around the paper.

The new piece “Journey to Water” was  a piece I “found” and I slowly tinkered away at it for brief moments at a time.

I keep finding inspiration for color palettes and textures while taking walks by the ocean and the park.

The first drawing memory I have is of the mountains of Honduras I did in color pencil when I was about 5 or 6. I vividly remember the array of greens and yellows that decorated my paper. I loved the land beneath my feet, sprouting out of the ground like magic beans and I still feel most at home outside within the trees.
